The Last King of Scotland on DVD

The Last King of Scotland aims to please
On Tuesday, the Last King of Scotland releases. I will admit that I haven’t seen this movie yet, but I plan on it being the first movie I rent on Tuesday. I’ve read so many good things about this movie. It won 25 different awards incuding an oscar; Forest Whitaker took home the academy award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role. So it definitley has critics backing it up. The story is a based on the brutal Ugandan dictator Idi Amin. It is an historical fictional account telling of the attrocities that this dictator committed.
This movie was not very difficult to do because most of the Ugandan people wanted a piece of Ugandan history to go mainstream. The director Kevin Macdonald explains it best:
“He (the president of Uganda) really responded to the idea that we wanted to make a film about Ugandan history in the same way that everybody we met responded. They wanted this story to be told. They didn’t feel prejudiced against us because we were foreigners wanting to tell their story - they were very generous, and the president gave us carte blanche and even allowed us to film in the parliament building while parliament was in session. We also had the co-operation of the army and we were allowed to close down the main street in the city.”
There you have it. I will be making a point this week to get out and see this movie. I suggest you do the same! Enjoy.
