Spiderman 2.1 on DVD. Big Deal.

Spiderman 2.1

Is there that much of a difference?

Spiderman 2.1 is being released this upcomming week. I honestly don’t get why they need to keep re-releasing movies. I mean don’t get me wrong, I’m a HUGE Spiderman fan, but version 2.1? Are you serious?

Apprently 2.1 has 8 minutes of new and exclusive extended action sequences. So they re-released Spiderman with 8 new minutes of footage. I think this is a little ridiculous. I thought Spideman 2 was good as it is. They don’t need to re-release it everytime they dig up another 10 minutes of action. What’s next version 2.2? Are they going to add another 8 minutes of “never before seen” footage. Movies need to be kept the way that they are. Enough of this updating and changing crap.

On a side note, this re-release reminds me of the South Park episode where they try to save films; the Free Hat episode. Hehehe. :)

  1. Re-releasing this movie has two purposes. First off, oodles more money. Secondly, Spider-Man 3 is set to come out right away, so not only would re-releasing Spider-Man 2 with a few minutes of added footage bring Spider-Man back up into peoples minds, it would get them psyched for the new Spider-Man movie due to come out. And hopfully from their view point, increase sales for the movies already out, as well as for the upcoming movie.

George Lucas did the same thing when he re-released episodes 4,5, and 6 with fancy new special effects (which really just wrecked the movies in my opinion). Not only did it increase sales of existing copies, and eventually with the release of them on dvd, but it got people all psyched for the disaster that would be episodes 1,2, and 3.

Stupid…but…if people keep buying it, they’ll keep doing it…

  2. Yeh Mark I totally agree with you. It’s definitely a marketing ploy. I mean why not make money. It just gets old fast if ya know what I mean.

Do you feel it ruins or damages the integrity of the movie itself?

  3. So, we get a few deleted scenes that aren’t really deleted, just a fraction of a second different than the clip they used in the movie? Big NO THANKS! Dude watch the deleted scenes from the X-Men movies, exactly the same. There aren’t any cool “this scene was deleted because it was too gory” or “this scene was deleted because Kirsten Dunst’s boobs popped out of her shirt on accident” deleted scenes, noooo. Just clips that were deleted because the cameraman kept rolling 2 seconds after the director said ‘cut’. Yay. Take version 2.1 and stick where the sun don’t shine and do it quickly, so I don’t have to hear from your grandma what a bad boy you’ve been.
