Flipper brings classic TV to DVD

Flipper releases on DVD

Flipper releases today on DVD

Remember the classic television show Flipper? Well now it’s out on DVD. I remember watching old re-runs of Flipper growing up. For those of you that are unfamiliar with Flipper, he was the ‘Lassie of the sea.’ Flipper was a dophin that went around and saved people from dangerous situations. This show was originally aired in 1964 and went on for four solid years. This DVD adds to the collection of classic TV that has recently come out on DVD (see Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley). This dvd series is just the first season, so don’t worry, more Flipper will be on the way.

Here’s an interesting fact I picked up on Flipper. Apparently Flipper was played by three different dolphins, ironically none of them were named Flipper. There names were Mitzi, Little Bit, and Mr. Gipper. Each dolphin would be used in different scenes, depending on the type of camera shots. Mitzi was strictly the close-up shot dolphin, mainly because she wasn’t as athletic as the other dolphins. That left Little Bit and Mr. Gipper did all the stunts in the show. All of these dolphins were trained by a top animal trainer. For more on Flipper, check out season one, releasing on DVD today.
