Dreamgirls releases Tuesday on DVD

Dreamgirls has academy awards to back it up

This week Dreamgirls will release on DVD. This movie reminds me of the movie Ray with the style of it. Dreamgirls has an all star cast that includes Jamie Foxx, Eddie Murphy, Beyonce Knowles, Danny Glover, and American Idol cast off Jennifer Hudson. Each do an excellent job of portraying how life in the early blooming music industry went. The director Bill Condon, is relatively new to the movie scene. One of his most notable films was 2004 hit Kinsey.

If you don’t know what Dreamgirls is about, it is based on a broadway musical. Three african american women find their way on the pop charts in the 1960’s. This is basically the building of the Motown empire. This movie was nominated for several awards, and it won two academy awards. Jennifer Hudson won the academy award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role, and the sound team also one for Best Achievement in Sound Mixing. So this movie has the academy backing them up. An interesting tid bit, Jennifer Hudson put on twenty pounds in order to play the role of Effie White. Check out Dreamgirls this week, new to DVD.
