The Fountain Movie Review

The Fountain releases on DVD this week

The Fountain Reviewed

The Fountain is not your average film. The movie stars Hugh Jackman (Tomas/Tommy/Tom) and Rachel Weisz (Queen Isabel/Izzi Creo) in this multidimensional drama love story. Darren Aronofsky does a great job at telling the 3 stories than span across the millennium.

Tomas is a Spanish Conquistador who is in search for the Tree of Life for the Queen of Spain, Queen Isabel to achieve eternal life. Tom is doctor who is obsessed with his work in order to give his wife Izzi more time to live. Tommy is futuristic astronaut. All three of these stories intertwine and ask if you could life forever would you be happy even if means your alone.

When you decide to watch this film, remember to think outside of the box. In order to appreciate this film you have to see almost the entire story before the connection comes clear.

Pan’s Labyrinth Movie Trailer

Movie Trailer for Pan’s Labyrinth

There are some really good new releases coming to DVD tomorrow. Pan’s Labyrinth is one of them. If you haven’t heard of this movie, watch this trailer. It seems like such a trippy movie and all. I have to go out and get it this week. But look closely at the special effects and computer generated images. Look how real it looks. It’s amazing. And it’s rated R. Pretty cool.

The Fountain releases to DVD this Tuesday

The Fountain releases on DVD this week

The Fountain comes out on Tuesday

This Tuesday, one of the most notable DVD releases is The Fountain. I meant to see this movie when it was in theaters, but honestly, I never got around to it. The movie looks like it could be pretty good. The director, Darren Aronofsky, who’s most notable movies are Requiem for a Dream and Pi, always seems to churn out a great film. It’s funny how some of these Hollywood directors start out. Aronofsky started out his career writing for the game show TV series Supermarket Sweep. That show was great!

The only cast members that really jumped out at me in this movie are Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz, but it’s usually typical for Aronofsky to have a not so brilliant cast. In the end though, it’s his brilliant directing that makes the movie what it is. I picked up this little tidbit on The Fountain:

“Instead of using CGI, Aronofsky chose to do the special effects for the film by using micro-photography of chemical reactions on tiny petri dishes. He has said that CGI would take away from the timelessness of the film and that he wants the film to stand the test of time.”

That’s pretty powerful stuff seeing how most films today use computer generated images extensively. All in all, I think this movie about the fountain of youth has potential. I’m looking forward to seeing it. I will post a trailer for it later this week to give everyone an idea of what it’s about.

Breaking and Entering on DVD

Breaking and Entering released on DVD Tuesday

Jude Law stars in Breaking and Entering

I already posted the trailer for this release. If you haven’t watched it yet, I suggest you do. Breaking and Entering stars Jude Law and Vera Farmiga (see: Running Scared). I am a huge Jude Law fan, so naturally, I was drawn to this movie. The film is basically about a thief, Jude Law, and how he goes through a series of events in his life that cause him to re-think his lifestyle. And what would this movie be without Jude Law having an affair with another woman, not his wife.

The director of this film Anthony Minghella has directed such films as Cold Mountain, The Talented Mr. Ripley, and the English Patient. There are some academy award winners on his list. It’s strange how this movie didn’t see a wide release. I’m not sure if this movie is a straight to DVD movie or it was on a limited release. Either way, Breaking and Entering provides great twists and turns that illustrate Jude Law’s situation. If you are a Jude Law fan, then see this movie.

Music and Lyrics Movie Trailer

Music and Lyrics trailer

Here’s a peak at one of this week’s new releases Music and Lyrics, the movie starring Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore. At first, I must say I was about skeptical about this romantic comedy. I saw the previews on TV, and I’m not gonna lie, I thought it looked bad. But, I watched this trailer and laughed…because Hugh Grant’s music video is ridiculous. His pop boy band reminds me of Wham! Lol, just watch the trailer.

Little Children Move Review

Little Chirldren movie review

Little Children Reviewed

I watched Little Children for the fact Kate Winslet was in the movie since I enjoyed her style of acting and the accent isn’t bad either. Well Little Children is actually three intertwining stories. Sarah (Kate Winslet) who is a lonely sex starved stay at home Mom is having an affair with the town’s stay at home dad Brad (Patrick Wilson).

Noah Emmerich is an ex cop who knows Brad and also is obsessed with getting the local molester/pedophile to leave town and make his life hell. In the end there is a twist with these two characters.

All the characters in this story meet each other in some way and overall the story was put together well. Makes you wonder what goes on in your neighborhood when your away from home.

Lame DVD of the Week: Because I Said So

New release on dvd Because I Said So

Because I Said So earns the honors this week

Every week there is at least one movie where you stop and say, “You’ve got to be kidding me.” Well this week was no exception. In this week’s monthly installment of Lame DVD of the Week, I bring to you the movie Because I Said So. Now this movie has all the makings for a lame movie. It’s got a very lame cast and a lame director, not to mention story/plot line.

So let me start with the cast. Because I Said So stars Dianne Keaton who’s starred in such films as Baby Boom, First Wives Club, and The Family Stone (bleh). Her co-star is singer turned actress Mandy Moore. The rest of the cast includes a bunch of B minus celebrities including many TV personalities. The director of the movie is Michael Lehmann. Who’s Michael Lehman you ask? Well he’s the director that directed such sensational 90’s movies like Airheads, My Giant, and The Truth About Cats and Dogs. All those movies with the exception of Airheads, were AWESOME! (sarcasm.)

Last but not least we come to the lame plot. Dianne Keaton plays a mother who tries to set up her daughter with a man because her daughter attracts psycho boyfriends. Fun stuff. Who better than cool and hip Dianne Keaton. Because we all want our mothers picking our significant others for us. Maybe the movie should be renamed: How Mandy Got Her Groove Back With The Help of Diane Keaton. Sounds good to me.

Review of The Queen

The Queen releases on DVD Tuesday

The Queen movie review

When this movie came out in the theater I really had no desire to watch it since I wasn’t really big on a movie about the monarch and speaking of the passing of Diana. I thought some things are better left as memories. I decided to watch it on DVD since I rented it for family. Well I was glad I took the time to watch this insightful film. In the movie The Queen, Helen Mirren plays an outstanding role as Queen Elizabeth II. Just like the events that took place Helen Mirren embodies the nuances and style of the Queen.

James Cromwell who plays the Queen’s husband in his role you just want to slap the taste out of mouth due to his old stanch ways. His feelings towards the whole matter are cold and yet that is what you may expect from the Royal monarch.

Michael Sheen who plays Tony Blair co-stars and plays a wonderful role in his portrayal. This movie is refreshing in time where glam, action and effects have taken movies to new heights. The Queen is a movie I would definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys a good story.
